I watched Bad Times at the El Royale yesterday (it’s on Popcorn) very good I thought, would recommend. Don’t buy into the criticism of Chris Hemswoth’s portrayal of the mad physo 60s cult leader, I guess they come in various shapes and sizes, unless you have more experience of them than I do!
Loose ends? Can’t really think of any tbh.

Mary Poppins Returns.... wasn't bad.... OK so the songs ain't so catchy as the original and will probably never will be (Sherman Brothers genius) but decent couple of hours... and Emily Blunt gives it a right decent go.... I liked the scenes when they went into the porcelain shit bowl... 8/10

Green Book.
One of the best films I've watched this year.
Viggo Mortenson and Mahershala Ali.
Based on true story, Viggo's character in it is an American-Italian bouncer who drives Don Shirley on a tour of the south, set in the 60's where black people were treated like vermin.
Great story that isn't bashing you over the head with a political message, as recent movies have tended to do.
This one had me hooked from minute one until the very end and it would not surprise me if Viggo gets an oscar nomination for his role.
Highly recommend.

Last night I watched a film that I hadn't even heard of 10 minutes before it started - Bad Times at the El Royale. After the first half of the film I was utterly enthralled by a piece of cinema that I considered the best I had seen in some time. With more than a nod to Tarantino, this was a slick, inventive crime thriller which, whilst paced slower than I would have liked, was building suspense and keeping the audience on their toes.
By the end of the film I was utterly disappointed. Without revealing spoilers (it is really still worth digging out and watching), these are my gripes:-
1. A major Hollywood A-Lister from an incredibly successful current movie franchise turns up around 2/3rds of the way in and utterly stinks the place up. His character should be intense and menacing, instead we get a load of neither.
2. Loose-ends-a-plenty. I am still scratching my head now over some of the seemingly crucial 'reveals' during the film which turned out to be utterly irrelevant, or in some cases, never mentioned again. Odd.
3. One of the characters in the film has a talent. A very marketable talent. This talent is shared with the audience at every opportunity, and becomes embarrassing over time. Difficult to explain without revealing the plot, but you'll know who I am talking about.
This film is a miss for me, but that most disappointing of misses, where it could easily have been a classic with some minor tweaks. Take a look, but go in open eyed.

I had a lot of doubts about it and read some poor reviews but I ended up being dragged along to watch Holmes & Watson yesterday.
Whatever you do in life, please NEVER watch this humongous piece of shit. It’s truly awful. Beyond shit.

Alf’s it doesn’t help that small cinemas seem to be trying to change the world. Every single film at my local watershed was some tale about a strong female or some other feminist bollocks.

I thought 2018 has been a good year at the UK box office, one of the best for ages?
I would gladly pay a bit more if they banned pop corn, fucking irritates me, I've moved seats just so I don't have to listen to someone munching the fucking stuff through the film. Or perhaps I'm just a grumpy old twat!
